ABOUT CYNTHIA
Many people used to say that my drawings reminded them of Picasso. At college, in the 80’s, I started to make some reinterpretations of paintings that attracted my attention, like Picasso, Magritte, Modigliani, Matisse, many Monalisas and others. Somehow I believe that doing that for many years helped me shaping and polishing my style and got me to where I’m at today.
You might be asking, why so many cats? As a huge cat lover, I’ve always loved to paint cats. About 10 years ago I had this idea of merging those two themes, cats and the great masters that I admire. So I set myself a challenge and started to freely experiment to see where could this crazy idea take me. To my surprise, with time I’ve developed a series of paintings that people resonate with and that I really have a great time creating it.
Although I use acrylics most of the time, some of the techniques that I studied and use are oil, acrylics, woodcut, metal engraving and collage. I also enjoy creating decoration items with paint and other unusual materials. Usually my medium choices are intuitive but the colors, shapes and drawings that inspire me also help in that process. Currently, I’ve been focusing on original drawings and reinterpretations.
